BOLESŁAWIEC ART COMMUNITY – MARIUSZ OCHOCKI
“Regardless of the inspiration in the creation process, I am constantly looking for the perfect pattern, drawing on both tradition and the present-day. I think that tableware should be not only beautiful, but also functional.”
Interview with Mariusz Ochocki (‘Ambiente’ 2017, No. 1, p. 9)
Mariusz Ochocki was born in 1962 in Bolesławiec. As a graduate of the Higher School of Fine Arts, presently the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, he apprenticed in the studio of Professor Felix Kocianowski and the workshop of ceramic techniques and technologies with professor Stanisław Szyba. He has been professionally associated with Artistic Handicraft Cooperative ‘Ceramika Artystyczna’ in Bolesławiec since 1991 as the artistic manager, and as a form designer since 2012. Mariusz designs ceramics, sculpture and graphics. Geometric shapes on the base of a ball and cuboid are inspirations recognized in his ceramics.
The introduction of lumps with cut sides in place of the oval ones allowed for
a new space for the use of simple geometric motifs that wrap around the surface of the dishes. His new collections, and in particular the sushi set, were received with great interest, becoming one of the most purchased sets in Asia, America and Europe.
